New partners on board at Wier & Wind
We are excited to inform you that the Interreg Wier & Wind project has new partners on-board. The project will now be led by the University of Ghent. Furthermore, we welcome The Seaweed Company into the Wier & Wind consortium. The Wier & Wind project will test offshore seaweed cultivation in an offshore wind park. With the change in partners, the seaweed cultivation system has been changed as well. The new seaweed system will be developed by Murre Technologies, UGhent and The Seaweed Company. Since the seaweed system is new, it has not yet been tested in offshore conditions. Therefore, the first growing season will take place on the Offshore Test Site of North Sea Farmers who will also coordinate the operational pilot. When the system proves to work safely in offshore conditions, the cultivation system will be moved into an offshore wind park in the North Sea. The seeding phase has already started and in February 2022, the seaweed system will installed on the Offshore Test Site. Keep an eye on our socials for more updates on the installations.
